The Laser dinghy was designed in 1971 by Bruce Kirby. Often called the laser One or standard this dinghy is all about simplicity. It is a single-handed sailing dinghy that is raced throughout the world from club level to Olympic level. The laser is a one-design but has many rig options. The main ones being 4.7, radial and full rig.
Since 2007 over 190,000 laser dinghies have been sold with the first one having sail number 100. The laser Radial is the current single-handed female dinghy for the 2012 Olympics in London as is the Laser Standard for men at the games. The Laser 4.7 rig is seen as a feeder from the Optimist class through to the Laser Radial and Standard rigs.
